I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt

of your despatch No.87 dated 6th April, 1927, conveying your approval of the proposal with regard to the offer of "Marble Hall" to the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty

for use as the official residence of the Commander-in- Chief of the China Station and their acceptance of the

offer.

2. I stated in paragraph 2 of my despatch No.475 of 23rd November, 1926, that it was understood that Lady Chater did not intend to make "Marble Hall" her home. Contrary to expectation, however, Lady Chater on her return to the Colony has taken up residence there and her plans for the future are uncertain, but may include a longer stay at Marble Hall than was previously anticipated.

3. The house will be handed over subject to the

provisos contained in paragraphs 5 and 6 of my previous

Gov. Jet. 23757/2b despatch No.475 of 23rd November, 1926, for use by the

Naval Commander-in-Chief as soon as Lady Chater elects not

to reside there, and the Naval Authorities are being

informed accordingly.

I have the honour to be,

Sir,

Your most obedient humble servant,

THE RIGHT HONOURABLE

LIEUTENANT COLONEL L.C.M.S.AMERY, M.P.,
